Lissa Evans on ‘Small Bomb at Dimperley’
In my latest author interview, I’m in conversation with the bestselling novelist, Lissa Evans. Lissa is the author of many brilliant historical novels, including Their Finest Hour and a Half and Crooked Heart, which are both set during World War Two. I’m a huge fan of Lissa’s writing, and today I’ll be chatting with her about her latest novel, Small Bomb at Dimperley, which is released this week.

Small Bomb at Dimperley is set in 1945, when peace has been declared and the long years of war are finally over. Corporal Valentine Vere-Thissett has just found out that, following the death of his elder brother, he has inherited the title and family estate. Horrified that Dimperley - his ancient, crumbling home - is now his responsibility, Valentine tries to live up to the expectations of his mother, Lady Vere-Thissett, who suggests he marry a fortune in order to save Dimperley.
When Valentine meets Zena Baxter, a young woman working as secretary to his Uncle Alaric at Dimperley, he realises there’s a better way to keep Dimperley afloat. As Zena and Valentine scheme to save Dimperley, they find themselves drawn to each other, but Zena is keeping a secret that she fears will ruin everything…
If you’re new to Lissa’s writing, then Small Bomb at Dimperley is a great place to start - it’s my favourite of her novels to date, which is very high praise, and it’s a heartwarming read to enjoy in the longer evenings ahead. If you’re already a longtime fan of Lissa’s work, then Small Bomb at Dimperley is sure to please, as it features all of Lissa’s trademark humour, loveable characters and fascinating historic detail.
I had so much fun chatting with Lissa about her writing, and I hope you enjoy our conversation too!
