I seem to have gone on a lot about the delights of Honey & Co lately, so I thought it was about time I did a proper restaurant review! This is one of my favourite places in London: the Israeli-influenced food is amazing, as well as being terrific value, and the service is top notch. The restaurant is fairly tiny, so it’s imperative to book ahead, or to eat at an unusual time (I often like to go around 4pm, for a great pre-theatre meal, or for one of their delicious cakes and cup of tea).
Earlier in the week, Mum and I were in the Fitzrovia area, so we decided to drop by for a late lunch. The £15 set menu at lunch time is really a fabulous deal, with a selection of mezze to start, followed by a main course of your choice. We settled down to enjoy our orange blossom iced tea (which I recreated here) and our selection of tempting starters.
I don’t think there’s much I like more than a great mezze selection: personal favourites of mine are the hummus and the picked cucumbers. Yum!
For the main course, I went for chicken with a pomegranate and pistachio salad, and Mum went for lamb meatballs in a broth with pear.
Both were incredible, and I especially enjoyed the light, fresh flavours of my dish. I want to start adding pomegranate to everything!
In the past, I’ve always been too full to order anything off the Honey & Co dessert menu, but for the purpose of this review (it’s tough, the life of a blogger), I decided that I’d better sample one of their delicious sounding puddings. It was hard to choose, but in the end I couldn’t resist the sound of a poached white peach, rose jelly and a ‘touch of sparkle’ (aka prosecco).
This dessert tasted just like summer in a bowl!
Mum went for a creamy cheesecake on top of baklava-like pastry, which was creamy, but light and quite irresistible!
I can now say that if you have a meal at Honey & Co, then definitely make sure you leave some room for dessert – otherwise, you’re seriously missing out!
